Surfers

Figure on a beach

Fun
Fun. Acrylic on paper. This piece started out as a couple of figures on a beach and then I thought it's a bit dull and ordinary. Too many blue tones.
So I experimented a bit with liquid acrylics and a spatter technique to add some different effects. It's different, and even if the final piece is transformed for better or worse. The idea is to not be afraid to experiment, and one learns what effects to use or not in other pieces.

You first
You first. Acrylic ink on paper. I thought I would try out some acrylic inks. Very like watercolours, and can dilute with water as well. One difference is the intensity of the colours and washes can be layered over dried layers without the risk of lifting.

Time to go
Time to go. Two figures leaving a beach as evening draws in. An oil study on paper using impasto gel for heavy textural effects. The gel sets up very quickly and I would normally use a sturdier support such as a panel, when putting down heavy impasto, to avoid the possibility of any cracking in the future.

A five minute study
A five minute oil study of a landscape. Oil on paper using a limited palette, ultramarine blue, cad yellow, titanium white and touch of permanent rose., A simple little composition to loosen up before or after more serious painting.
